M&S Cabot Circus, Bristol, BS1
B.E.T Enabling undertook this very large enabling works project directly for Marks & Spencer in the center of a live shopping centre, Cabot Circus in Bristol.
Our first activity was to establish a fully hoarded site area so that our works were separate from the live shopping center and mall. This was done with 1 hour fire rated hoarding and firefly. The hoarding and windows all then had vinyl with Marks & Spencer standard images and wording applied.
Once behind the hoarding, works could commence, but not until a detailed ‘track and trace’ of all services was undertaken so that we were able to remove just those services that fed the areas to be stripped and not those that fed other parts of the live shopping centre.
Once this was completed, we were able to start the 25,000m² soft strip, RAF removal and screed removal. B.E.T Enabling then got started on the very intensive enabling works and structural alteration works that were required to make the building suitable for Marks & Spencer requirements, which included building 1 new lift shaft and extending an existing lift shaft.
Other works including new screed over 10,000m², significant new below ground drainage and fire protection works to existing steelwork and significant slab infills and new service risers. All these works were undertaken in a live shopping centre, working 24/7 for 8 weeks to achieve a very demanding program, all whilst not receiving any complaints from Centre Management, adjoining stores, shoppers or nearby residents.
