M&S High Road, Whetstone, N20
BibbEgan Group were awarded the Strip Out project at another M&S site, M&S Whetstone in North London. The project was set around an expansion of M&S into a former Carpetright building (next door) and updating the current M&S ready for the expansion.
The building pre-dates 1990 and consists of traditional masonry and steel framing. The roof and small sections of the façade are cladded with profiled steel sheeting.
Upon vacant possession of the buildings, Heras fencing was installed around the site and service isolations, and temporary services could be installed to both buildings to ensure that we were safe when conducting the strip out of the buildings.
Phase 1 started with the internal strip out of the vacant Carpetright building, returning the structure to a fully isolated, prepared shell state ready for the future fit out. Key activities included full internal demolition – partitions, ceiling and M&E, comprehensive roof maintenance – including fixings replacements and liquid coating application.
Phase 2 saw us transitioning into the main previous M&S building to begin the strip out in this building ready for the fit-out. We began by verifying and tracing all existing electrical and gas plants, tracing of equipment and ensure that specific parts of the building are to remain live during the process of the project. Removal of floor, wall, ceiling finishes and internal partitions as well as all back of house kitchen and WC areas meant that we were leaving the previous M&S Whetstone in a complete shell in order for the next contractor to come and perform the fit out.
All works were completed at M&S Whetstone to see the new improvement of this store and ready for the new fit out.
