Arcadia Shopping Centre, Ealing W5

The project is bounded to the East and West of the site by new build residential and mixed use developments. The construction of Arcadia Shopping Centre, Ealing Broadway is traditional brick, with a steel frame roof trusses and concrete floor slab.

The main H&S issue was that the shopping centre was live and open to the general public, with access to TK Maxx and McDonalds which remained open during the works. Site Operations included full internal Soft Strip back to the main structure of the building; including, internal stair cases, four Lift’s, two escalators, all plaster from the walls and floor screed, this was highly sensitive works due to the live surroundings.

Tower also conducted the external demolition works including the dismantling and salvage of the bell tower above the main entrance of the centre, Tower also removed the main roof light 8 meters wide spanning 67 metres. Two Demolition mangers and over thirty skilled operatives worked on Arcadia Shopping Centre ensuring that all the demolition works were completed on program. Removal of the arising’s via the use of a tower crane was coordinated daily with the other trade contractors on site to ensure continuity of program for all involved.

Wait and load vehicles from 3.5t caged lorries up to 40yd roll on roll off containers were allocated specific time slots on a ’24 hour notification’ basis. All arisings were separated into their individual waste streams on site and taken away for further recycling/re-use at a nearby transfer station. Daily liaison with the Main Contractor was essential to the smooth operation of the works in conjunction with services terminations and the protection of items to remain.

Over 15,000 man hours were accumulated with zero accidents during the entire contract.
